Algonquin Middle School decision could come Tuesday night
Des Plaines Elementary District 62 officials say they will issue a statement Tuesday night about the opening of Algonquin Middle School, Superintendent Jane Westerhold said Monday.
As construction continues at the school, the district has been investigating alternative sites to house the school's 700 students in case the building is not ready when classes start Aug. 23.
Construction at Algonquin was delayed by the three-week laborer's strike. Work resumed on July 20, but construction at Algonquin most certainly won't be completed before classes begin on Aug. 23.
Yet, the question remains whether a portion, at least, of the classrooms would be usable.
Westerhold said Monday the situation is still pretty fluid and officials will meet Tuesday through the day to finalize a plan. The district plans to inform parents electronically by around 8 p.m. Tuesday night, and post the information on their website.
Registration for the 2010-11 school year begins on Wednesday, Aug. 11.
The mandatory Aug. 11 registration sessions for Algonquin Middle School will run from 8 to 10:30 a.m. and again from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Orchard Place School, 2727 Maple St.
