Real problem in Dist. 15 is separation agreement
This is in response to the recent letter by Vince Hunn, ("Millar is leading District 15 into ruin", Aug. 2). While Mr. Hunn correctly notes that Mr. Millar (along with every other board member) voted for Dr. Lukich's original employment contract, he is wrong on the circumstances of his departure. Mr. Hunn states, "Now, we the people are left holding the bag for paying his contract off. Everyone that knows about contracts knows they are legal papers and must be followed to the letter of the law."
The problem is, Dr. Lukich resigned, releasing District 15 from the terms of the original contract. Normally, when someone resigns they are not entitled to anything. Everyone, including Mr. Hunn, should know that.
However, the board, led by Dr. Chapman, entered into a new costly separation agreement for whatever reasons we may never know because of the "confidentiality clause" built into it. Fortunately, that issue is being reviewed by the Office of the Illinois Attorney General.
Mr. Hunn next comments on the referendum and refers to the over 7,500 supporters as "his minions." How rude! I am one of the supporters of the effort to allow the voters the right to decide whether it is a good thing to pay millions of dollars in penalties to refund certain bonds just so that we can issue even more bonds to maximize our indebtedness.
Rather than trying to see how much debt we can amass, perhaps we should look to our neighbor district in Schaumburg who claims they will be debt free within two years.
Mr. Hunn, please get your facts straight next time. And please, no more derogatory insults to the thousands of independently-minded citizens of this district.
