Disagreeing doesn't make one 'hateful'
Rev. Carey of the First Congregational Church of Glen Ellyn, in a July 31 letter to Fence Post, makes some statements that are quite astounding coming from a Christian pastor.
To refute those who hold that homosexual acts are immoral, he accuses them of being hateful. He states that homosexuals want only to be treated like human beings and accepted for who they are. Christians who hold that homosexual acts are sinful, if they are really Christian, absolutely agree that persons involved in homosexual activity should be treated with respect, (and, I might add, with love) and accepted for who they are, that is, children of God created in his image and likeness.
This is not to say that their immoral acts have to be treated as acceptable, any more than adultery or fornication have to be considered as acceptable behavior.
Rev. Carey tells us that laws of the Bible should be taken as a "veritable pillar of salt" because the writers lived in a culture alien from our own, as if our present-day culture is a more reliable barometer of moral truth than the Bible.
He states that those who interpret the Bible to teach the immorality of homosexual acts are interpreting scripture as would be expected from a first-grader. No wonder Jesus said that "unless you become as little children, you cannot enter the kingdom of heaven."
