Pedestrian seriously injured in Elgin

An Elgin man walking in a roadway was struck by a car and seriously injured late Friday, police said.

Reynardo Manzanarez, 24, of the 2000 block of South Street, was struck in the 1700 block of Weld Road, about five blocks from his home, said Lt. Glenn Theriault of the Elgin Police Department.

He was taken to Provena St. Joseph Hospital where he was listed in critical condition Saturday, according to Theriault.

The victim was walking in the eastbound lane of the street that is a frontage road for U.S. Route 20 and was struck about 10 p.m. by a car traveling east.

The accident is under investigation, and no tickets have been issued at this time.
