Plane violates Chicago airspace during Obama visit

WASHINGTON -- The military says fighter jets escorted a small biplane out of protected airspace above Chicago during President Barack Obama's visit there Thursday.

The North American Aerospace Defense Command says the F-22 fighters were patrolling the airspace and intercepted the plane shortly before noon. There was no threat to the president.

Obama was in Chicago for a birthday celebration on Wednesday and a round of campaign fundraisers and a visit to a Ford Motor Co. plant Thursday. Temporary airspace restrictions were in place due to his visit.
