Folk music concert will raise funds for Glen Ellyn history

A small musical gig this weekend could equate to big help in bringing Glen Ellyn history to life.

The village's historical society is hosting the award-winning band Claudia Russell and the Folk Unlimited Orchestra at the Glen Ellyn History Center Sunday to play a benefit concert for the capital campaign to build History Park.

Plans for the park, which will be built at the intersection of North Main Street and St. Charles Road, include a replica of the original Glen Ellyn Five Mineral Springs Pavilion and a new museum to display various eras of the village's history.

Developers estimate the more than $6 million park will not be completed until seven to 10 years from now.

Jan Langford, executive director of the Glen Ellyn Historical Society, said in an e-mail interview that guests can expect some "delicious desserts, premium coffees and a delightful evening of music."

"We are encouraging people to come out to enjoy a wonderful concert by a nationally-renown group at a great price in a great setting," she wrote.

She added that Claudia Russel and her band, who hail out of San Francisco, were picked because of their coincidental ties to the fundraising effort.

"Folk music has its roots in early American musical traditions, so we feel it is an appropriate musical genre to present at our history center venue," she wrote.

Tickets for the 7 p.m. concert are $15 each and can be purchased at Stacey's Corner Store, 800 N. Main St.
