Cook sheriff adds online crime blotter
The Cook County Sheriff's Office has come up with a new online device to help suburban residents stay abreast of crime in their areas.
The sheriff's office announced Thursday that the Cook County Crime Blotter has been added to its cookcountysheriff.com website. It divides suburban Cook into four patrol districts labeled for county courthouses - Skokie, Rolling Meadows, Bridgeview and Markham - and allows residents to click on each for what's described as "a snapshot of calls about major incidents officers have responded to that day."
"This will allow concerned citizens to see some of what may be going on in their neighborhood and serve as an extra set of eyes and ears for us," said Sheriff Tom Dart.
He said the freer give-and-take of information with residents could potentially aid investigations, as residents learn what police are looking for in certain areas.
"It's an added tool to help residents help us," he added.
The sheriff's office said it receives more than 40,000 calls a year.
