AT&T chief Stephenson: Web regulations 'don't make sense'

AT&T Inc. Chief Executive Officer and Chairman Randall Stephenson said a U.S. Federal Communications Commission proposal to regulate the Internet "doesn't make a whole lot of sense" and is based on antiquated rules.

The FCC is proposing to use "rules that were written for the rotary dial phone," Stephenson is saying today at a meeting of the American Legislative Exchange Council in San Diego, according to a text of his speech.

"It's hard to explain why the FCC would be compelled to change anything, especially when we can't explain what needs to be fixed."

Locally, AT&T has operations in Hoffman Estates.
