Brown's bat boosts Flyers

Travis Brown had 4 hits, including the go-ahead home run, as the visiting Schaumburg Flyers beat the Rockford RiverHawks 6-3 in Northern League action on Wednesday night at Road Ranger Stadium.

Brown was 4-for-5 and hit a two-out home run, his second of the year, in the seventh inning off Rockford reliever Mike McTamney (0-1). Mario Delgado also homered for the Flyers, who rallied from a 2-0 deficit.

Dustin Glant (6-4) walked a season-high six batters, but he held the RiverHawks to 1 earned run on 5 hits over 6 innings to earn the victory on the mound.

Fargo 12, Fielders 9: The Lake County Fielders lost a slugfest to the visiting Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks, splitting the four-game Northern League series in Zion.

A bright spot for the Fielders was the hitting of Joshua Short. The all-star left fielder had 3 hits, scored 3 runs and knocked in 5 of Lake County's 9 runs.

Kernels 6, Cougars 4: The Kane County Cougars held a 4-2 lead after eight innings, but the visiting Cedar Rapids Kernels rallied to score 4 unearned runs in the ninth to stun the Cougars at Elfstrom Stadium in Geneva and even the Midwest League series at 1 win apiece.

It was only the second home loss in 12 games for the Cougars.
