Duchossois purchases Inverness estate

On a given evening, Richard Duchossois could pull into his driveway and see more than a dozen thoroughbreds roaming his sprawling Barrington Hills horse farm.

But the longtime Arlington Park chairman and his wife may have chosen to "downsize" to a more manageable - and equine-free - Inverness estate.

The couple in late June paid $1.375 million for a 5,151-square-foot home on the 1600 block of Pheasant Trail through a trust in Mary Duchossois' name. Neither Duchossois could be reached for comment.

Built in the mid-1970s, the two-story house sits on more than 11/2 acres and backs up to a small pond. According to various real estate listings, it features five bedrooms, his-and-hers master baths and closets, an exercise room and a 1,000-bottle wine cellar.

There's also a 4+-car garage and $200,000 worth of exterior decor and landscaping.

Unlike many Barrington Hills homes with driveways that wind through dense woods, Duchossois' new house is set in a typical Inverness subdivision off Roselle Road where lots average more than an acre. Trees also don't obscure his brick paver circular driveway.

It's unclear whether Duchossois will in fact make the move or if the purchase is an investment only. Listing real estate agent Jack Sanderson declined to comment.

The initial asking price was set at $1.45 million, even though popular online appraisal websites including Eppraisal estimate the house's market price between $890,500 and $973,000.

Insurance executive Paul Wasikowski was the seller.
