New line of kids' furniture debuts at Algonquin Commons

Barbara Williams and her brother John Lima were both ready to find a new line of work.

When they saw the line of children's furniture their friend was making, they knew what they had to do.

Last month, the siblings opened Kids Bunks & Beds, Inc. at 2100 S. Randall Road in Algonquin.

"It's a terrific product. We stand by it. It's solid hardwood. It's such a great product and great quality. We just decided this is what we were going to do," Williams said.

"We were tired of our other jobs, and it's something we just knew was right to do together. He knew one aspect of the business and I knew another, and we just did it."

After researching the market and where to open the business for about six months, they settled on the Randall Road corridor.

The family-owned business, which is located in Algonquin Commons between Carter's and Gymboree, sells furniture for children, including beds, bunk beds, dressers, nightstands, book shelves, trundles and more.

"It's all wood. There's no particleboard. We have six different colors, and lots of options for people," she said.

The bunk beds, she added, can be broken down into regular beds once the kids are too old for bunks.

The store also sells accessories for children's bedrooms.

Anything you order in the store, Williams added, can be delivered to your home within 48 to 72 hours.

The store doesn't have set hours yet, but is open seven days a week. Williams said they are usually open by 10:30 a.m., and close between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m.

Halloween party? Yes, it's time for the first Halloween party of the season.

The Yankee Candle along Randall Road in Geneva Commons is hosting a Halloween preview party from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 7.

There will be food, decorations and the employees will be in costumes during the party.

You can also enter a contest trying to solve the "Mystery of Yankee Manor." Anyone who enters, will receive a coupon.

Tasting party: Harry & David, also in Geneva Commons, is hosting a tasting party this weekend.

If you missed out on their cheesecake tasting last weekend, you might want to hit the pretzel and malt ball snacks tasting party this weekend.

You can get a free taste of the products from 1 to 5 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.
