White Sox place Threets on 15-day disabled list, recall Torres
Prior to the first game of today's doubleheader at Detroit, the Chicago White Sox placed left-handed reliever Erick Threets on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to July 31) with turf toe (left great toe) and recalled right-hander Carlos Torres from Class AAA Charlotte.
Torres, 27, will wear uniform No. 52 and will start the second game of today's doubleheader.
He is 7-7 with a 3.41 ERA (49 ER/129.1 IP), 122 strikeouts and a .222 (103-464) opponents average in 22 games (20 starts) with Charlotte this season. The 6-foot-1, 190-pounder has gone 5-2 with a 2.54 ERA (23 ER/74.0 IP) in his last 12 starts
Torres ranks third in the International League in strikeouts and IP and eighth in ERA. He has been named International League Pitcher of the Week on three occasions (April 8-11, May 31-June 6 and June 21-27), becoming the ninth player in league history to win the award three times in a single season.
Torres pitched in eight games (five starts) with the White Sox in 2009, going 1-2 with a 6.04 ERA (19 ER/28.1 IP) and 22 strikeouts.
Threets, 28, has gone 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA (9.1 IP) in nine appearances since his contract was purchased from Class AAA Charlotte on June 27.
