Two Carol Stream men accused of stealing from seniors
One Carol Stream man has been charged and another is being sought in an alleged scheme to steal from seniors.
Jay Taylor, 21, of the 600 block of Bluff Street, was released on a $5,000 bond last week after being charged with two counts of felony forgery. According to the Cook County Sheriff's Office, Taylor and Sal Auditore, 21, also of the same block in Carol Stream, are being charged with robbing three seniors in an assisted-living center in Palos Park over two days in late June.
According to the sheriff's office, they'd gain entry by saying they were working on a high-school project; while one man engaged the resident in a conversation, the other would ask to use the bathroom and steal money, checks, credit cards and other items.
Sheriff's police detectives tracked down Taylor, and he told them he had recently dropped Auditore at a bus station in Colorado and that he might have been headed to California.
The sheriff's police said Auditore has a long criminal record in California, Colorado and Arizona, and has an active arrest warrant in Michigan for similar crimes. Three nationwide no-bond warrants were issued for his arrest on burglary charges.
Police are investigating possible similar crimes. Taylor's next hearing is Aug. 18 in Bridgeview.
