Wolves sign defenseman Matheson

The Chicago Wolves have signed a former rival with Milwaukee, defenseman Mark Matheson.

The 26-year-old Matheson appeared in 58 games with the Milwaukee Admirals last season and ranked fourth among team defensemen with 17 points (4G, 13A) during his third full pro campaign.

In the 2008-09 season, he set a career high and was tied for fifth on the Admirals with 23 assists and had 25 points in 76 games. In 10 games against the Wolves that season, he had 5 assists.

Overall, the Calgary, Alberta, native has appeared in 190 American Hockey League contests with the Admirals, spanning parts of four seasons (2006-2010), notching 46 assists, 52 points and 106 penalty minutes. He also competed in 26 Calder Cup playoff contests with Milwaukee, collecting 6 points (G, 5A) and 14 penalty minutes.

Prior to turning pro, Matheson spent four years at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst (Hockey East), where he tallied 20 goals, 29 assists, 49 points and 28 penalty minutes in 131 games from 2003 to 2007.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed by the Wolves.
