DUI charges filed in North Aurora crash
North Aurora police are investigating a serious crash that put two people in the hospital and resulted in felony DUI charges.
The accident occurred shortly after 4 p.m. Friday on Lincolnway (Route 31) just south of Airport Road. Police say that David Lopez-Castillo, 39, of the 500 block of east New York Street in Aurora, was driving south on Lincolnway when his pickup truck crossed the yellow line and collided head-on with a minivan heading north.
Lopez-Castillo was transported to Provena Mercy Center hospital in Aurora for injuries that authorities said were not life-threatening.
The driver of the minivan, a 47-year-old woman from Aurora, was also transported to Provena Mercy Center, then airlifted to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, police said in a statement. Police have not released the woman's name, and could not offer any information about her condition.
As a result of the crash, Lopez-Castillo faces felony charges of aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol and failure to remain at the scene of an accident. He was also charged with various traffic offenses.
No other information was available Saturday morning. North Aurora police and the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team continue to investigate.
