Cougars squeeze past Bees
The Kane County Cougars continued their dominance at Elfstrom Stadium on Saturday night, beating the Burlington Bees 4-2 in front of 10,947 in the opener of a seven-game homestand.
The Cougars are 13-3 at home in the second half and maintain a 3-game lead for the top playoff spot in the Western Division. They also finished July with a mark of 18-10, the third-highest July win total in team history.
With the game tied 2-2 in the seventh, Mike Gilmartin squeezed home Anthony Aliotti, and Max Stassi scored on a Rashun Dixon single to make it 4-2.
Josh Lansford (1-1) picked up the victory with 2 perfect relief innings.
Flyers 9, RedHawks 7: The Schaumburg Flyers (24-40) beat the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks with an offensive onslaught at Alexian Field. Ruddy Yan hit the Flyers' first inside-the-park home run in the third inning, scoring 2 runs.
Fielders 9, Goldeyes 4: Amos Ramon went 4-for-5 and was a home run short of hitting for the cycle as the host Lake County Fielders overcame a 4-0 first-inning deficit in front of 5,267 at Fielders' stadium.
Fielders startig pitcher Zach Ward (5-5) pitched a complete game, allowing 9 hits and 6 walks while striking out seven.
Bandits 7-7, Pride 3-5: Emily Friedman laced a two-out, 2-RBI single to complete a 4-run first inning Saturday night as the Chicago Bandits took an early lead and were on their way to a doubleheader sweep. Samantha Findlay's solo homer in the sixth inning of the opener broke a 3-3 tie.
