Soldiers' sacrifices are front-page news
Recently, in a very small paragraph, the Daily Herald reported that in less than 12 days, 23 soldiers had lost their lives. I wonder how many were injured and how many civilian women and children also lost their lives or were injured.
During the Vietnam War, on the nightly news and front pages of our newspapers, we saw images of the remains of our soldiers being returned the United States in flag-draped coffins. It was a very sad sight to behold. Nevertheless, those images helped us remember every day the ultimate sacrifice of those soldiers and the grief of their loved ones they left behind. It also helped end the war.
Isn't it time that our newspapers once again daily on its front pages bring to the public reports and photographs of our dead and injured soldiers? Isn't it time that reports of our fallen and injured soldiers are placed ahead of the news of our politicians and entertainment celebrities?
