Your news: Hoffman Estates Police station relocates

On Monday, July 26, the new village of Hoffman Estates Police Station opened at 411 W. Higgins Road. This station replaces the old police department building located at 1200 Gannon Drive, which was built in 1970, to serve as the village hall and police station. The location of the new police station was determined by availability of land, the size of lot needed to build such a facility and accessibility to major roadways.

Construction of the new 79,000-square-foot station began in the fall of 2008. The village board committed to make this new police station an environmentally friendly facility. As such, the building will be one of only a handful of LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design)-certified "gold" police stations in the state of Illinois, as recognized by the U.S. Green Building Council.

Among the unique features of this building are the use of high-efficiency heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment, a bioswale system that filters water run off before returning it to the environment, low-flow plumbing fixtures, a green roof, and much more.

In addition to providing a public space for administrative adjudication hearings and police training, this station will also include a new Community Resource Center, which will help the village provide an enhanced level of service to the residents of the community. Finally, a portion of the new station will serve as the primary Emergency Operations Center (EOC) for the village.

If you have any questions about the new station, call the Hoffman Estates Police Department at (847) 781-2800.
