More charges for car burglary suspect

A Batavia teen charged with burglarizing cars in that town faces more charges of burglary, this time from Geneva police.

Christopher A. Rogers, 17, of the 600 block of South Batavia Avenue, was charged Thursday with seven counts of burglary to motor vehicles, a class 2 felony, according to police.

"It was a crime of opportunity," Geneva Deputy Cmdr. Julie Nash said.

The vehicles, on Eagle Brook Drive, were burglarized July 23-25. A black Tommy Hilfiger-brand wallet, a $15 Jamba Juice gift card and change were stolen out of a vehicle in the 1400 block between 6:30 p.m. July 24 and 6:17 a.m. July 25. An unlocked vehicle in the 1500 block was ransacked between 8 p.m. July 23 and 6:17 a.m. July 25, but nothing was missing; and between 11:30 p.m. July 24 and 6:36 a.m. July 25, at a house in the 1900 block, one unlocked vehicle was ransacked without anything being taken, but a Sony Cybershot digital camera, a Nikon Coolpix digital camera and a Polaroid portable DVD player were taken out of another unlocked vehicle.

Items from the Geneva burglaries were found with Rogers when he was arrested in Batavia.

Rogers was arrested in Batavia July 24, and remains in the Kane County jail. His bail was set at $200,000, and he would have to pay $20,000 to be released. His next court date is Aug. 9.

He is accused of burglarizing 11 unlocked vehicles in Batavia. Three 15-year-old boys were also arrested.

Police said they were alerted to suspicious behavior when a witness called to report seeing several people going from driveway to driveway checking vehicles's doors in Batavia.

Geneva police are investigating whether the boys were also involved in the Geneva crimes.
