Bataviabull; Two unlocked vehicles in the 500 and 700 blocks of Young Avenue were ransacked, it was reported at 2 a.m. Monday, police said.bull; Someone broke into an electrical substation between Saturday and Monday in the 1800 block of Hubbard Avenue. They stole a dump truck, which was later found in the 1300 block of East Wilson Street; an all-terrain vehicle; and 700 feet of copper wire, police said.bull; A purse and a digital camera were stolen out of an unlocked vehicle in the 1000 block of DeShannon Court Saturday or Sunday, police said.bull; A mountain bicycle was stolen from the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, 645 S. River St., it was reported Saturday, police said.bull; A trail bicycle was stolen at the Batavia Public Library, 10 S. Main St., police said.bull; Five street lamps were damaged in the 2400 block of Hunt Lane, it was reported Monday, police said.Elginbull; A 65-year-old woman told police Wednesday that a future tenant sent her a counterfeit $6,000 check to cash, and to apply $3,000 toward a rental fee, police said. The woman said the check came with a note, instructing her to keep $3,000 and to give the rest of the money back to future tenant. The woman's bank said the check was copied from among several checks that had been stolen from an electronics company based in Ohio.bull; On Monday, a brown, male pit bull escaped from an Elgin home and the owners believe somebody found him, but won't return the dog. Police say the owners posted pictures of the dog at a gas station in the 600 block of Villa Street. Wednesday, a woman went inside the gas station, removed one of the dog's pictures and told the clerk she had the dog. She was last seen driving away in a red vehicle, reports said.
