Quinn: Dual U.S. Senate election won't be pricey

Gov. Pat Quinn says he doesn't think holding a dual U.S. Senate vote on Nov. 2 will cost much.

An appeals court ruled a special election should be held to fill the seat formerly held by President Barack Obama. Roland Burris has held the seat since his 2008 appointment by then-Gov. Rod Blagojevich.

Quinn said Tuesday he doesn't think "there's much additional expense" to hold the election.

Democratic state Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias, Republican Rep. Mark Kirk and the Green Party candidate LeAlan Jones are competing for the chance at a six-year term.

The issue of a special election ended up in court because a lawsuit was filed after Quinn didn't schedule a special election for the seat after he replaced Blagojevich, who was impeached and removed for alleged corruption.
