Woman attacked while jogging in Gurnee near school
Gurnee police say they are investigating an attack on a woman while she jogged Sunday afternoon off Almond Road near Woodland Middle School.
Police said they were informed about the attack by emergency room staff at Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital, where the woman drove herself for treatment for a concussion, abrasions and a sprained ankle.
The 41-year-old woman was jogging south on a sidewalk on Almond Road, in front of the middle school on Gurnee's west side, when she passed a man headed in the opposite direction about 12:15 p.m., authorities said.
Right after the man passed, police said, he grabbed the woman from behind and pushed her to the ground. He then demanded money and that she take him to her house, according to authorities.
After telling the suspect she lived a couple miles away and had no cash, authorities said, the man became angry, shoved her head onto the ground and stated he'd kill her if she called police. The man fled in an unknown direction.
Police said the woman went home and didn't call 911. She then drove about 14 miles east to the hospital in Lake Forest and told emergency room staffers what had occurred, prompting them to call Gurnee police at 4:21 p.m.
Gurnee Police Cmdr. Jay Patrick said the woman told investigators she never saw the suspect until Sunday. She described the attacker as a white man in his late 20s, about 6-feet-2, thin build, sandy hair, green eyes and wearing shorts, but no shirt.
"We hope to get a sketch of the offender by the end of the week," Patrick said.
Anyone with information about the attack is asked to call Gurnee police at (847) 599-7000 or Lake County Crime Stoppers at (847) 662-2222.
