Lake Co. man gets 7 years for robbery, other arrests
A Wadsworth man was sentenced to seven years in prison Monday after pleading guilty to committing two crimes while he was on probation for a third.
William Iverson, 25, of the 40000 block of Forestview Road, pleaded guilty to robbery and resisting arrest during a hearing before Lake County Circuit Judge John Phillips.
Assistant State's Attorney Steven Derue said at the time of the offenses, Iverson was on probation for a May 2009 conviction for burglary.
On Oct. 9 of last year, Iverson went into a gas station at on Green Bay Road in Wadsworth just after midnight and purchased a package of gum.
When the clerk opened the cash register, Iverson reached into the cash drawer and grabbed $60 before running out the door.
The clerk told Lake County sheriff's police he recognized Iverson because they had gone to high school together, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
On March 2 of this year, Winthrop Harbor police came across Iverson when they responded to a report of domestic violence in an apartment in that community.
The officer found the arrest warrant for Iverson during a computer check and tried to arrest him, but Iverson struggled with the officer before being subdued.
Phillips sentenced Iverson to seven years in prison for those crimes and gave him a concurrent sentence of seven years for violating his probation in the burglary case.
Derue said Iverson was discharged unsuccessfully from a drug-treatment program he was ordered to complete as part of his sentence.
When Iverson was discharged from the program, officials there ordered him to report to the Lake County jail to finish his sentence but he failed to do so.
