Bridge inspection:A routine inspection will be done Monday on the bridge that carries Randall Road over the Union Pacific Railroad tracks just south of Big Timber Road in Elgin. It will require that traffic be reduced to one lane in either direction between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.Sidewalk removal:On Monday, July 26, work will begin at the north end of Grove Court in Elgin for the removal and replacement of the curb and gutter and sidewalk along the east side of Grove Court and the north side of Highland Avenue from Grove Court to Center Street. Curb and gutter and sidewalk removal will also begin on Spring Street between Highland Avenue and Division Street. Weather permitting, this stage of the work is expected to be completed by the end of August.Bison feeding: Get an up close look at bison, deer and elk at the Lords Park Zoo from 7 to 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 14, to help the zookeeper feed the animals breakfast. Space is limited to 12 people and registration can be made by calling (847) 741-6655. The cost is $2 for adults, $1 for kids, and free for members of the Elgin Public Museum, 225 Grand Blvd., at Lords Park.District 300 cuts activity costs:The Community Unit District 300 school board has approved a $35,000 reduction in extracurricular costs for the 2010-11 school year. The vote marked the district's final reduction before the official start of the new fiscal year on July 1. The vote establishes a 20-student minimum for high school clubs and directs staff to run buses for after-school activities more efficiently.Centegra shuffles leadership:Centegra Health System has named Jason Sciarro its new president. Sciarro has served as chief operating officer since 2006. Sciarro replaces Michael Eesley, who will remain Centegra's chief executive officer. In their newly configured roles, Eesley will lead lobbying and long-term planning efforts while Sciarro, who reports to Eesley, will supervise the day-to-day operations of Centegra's three hospitals. Centegra is McHenry County's largest private employer.
