Ban on offshore oil drilling goes too far, enforce current safeguards
The Obama administration wants a moratorium on offshore oil drilling until better safeguards against accidents like the Gulf catastrophe can be avoided in the future.
My question is, what is wrong with the current safeguards? They have worked well for a long time. The Gulf accident occurred because BP did not follow the current safeguards, as stated by eyewitnesses who participated in the BP operation in question.
Do we really need new safeguards? Let's enforce the ones we have. Why does the administration look to fix things even though they are not broken? Why does the administration want to put a stop on an industry that is so crucial to the well-being of our country and shut down thousands of jobs in the process? I can see one reason: to get the support of voters who are environmentally motivated and who don't want to use the rule of four T's - Take Time To Think about what is going on in D.C. and in the country. The time would be well spent.
