Severe storm watch issued for area
The National Weather service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect until 9 p.m. for most of northern Illinois, including Cook, DuPage, Kane, Kendall, Lake, McHenry and Will counties.
According to forecasts, showers and thunderstorms are likely, mainly after 7 p.m. New rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches are possible, with wind gusts up to 60 MPH, lightning and nickel-sized hail. The low tonight will be around 75.
There also is a Heat Advisory in effect until 7 p.m., with temperatures reaching into the 90s leading to a heat index of around 105 degrees.
Officials warn of an increased risk of heat exhaustion or heat stroke for individuals working outdoors.
Tomorrow, there will be a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms with a high near 89. Heat index values could reach 95.
