76ers sign free agent center Tony Battie

PHILADELPHIA -- The Philadelphia 76ers have signed free agent center Tony Battie.

76ers president Ed Stafanski said Wednesday that the team sees Battie as providing additional depth in the front court and "a valuable veteran presence" for younger players. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

The 6-11, 240-pound player has averaged 6.4 points, 5.3 rebounds and .90 blocks in a dozen seasons in the NBA. He has also appeared in 51 playoff games and was a member of the Orlando Magic's Eastern Conference Championship team in 2008-09.

Battie was traded to New Jersey last summer and played in 15 games for the Nets last season.
