Brass Band in RLBThe Round Lake Beach Cultural and Civic Center is set to host an outdoor concert Thursday, July 22 at 7 p.m. featuring the Illinois Brass Band. The award winning 30-piece volunteer band will feature "Pops" music at the show. Families are encouraged to attend the outdoor event with a blanket and picnic food and beverages. The Cultural and Civic Center is at 2007 Civic Center Way. Admission is free.Antioch adds commissionThe Antioch Village Board voted Monday to establish an environmental commission, which will be headed by Trustee Scott Pierce. Pierce said he is interviewing applicants over the next few weeks. He said he hopes to have the commission up and running by mid-August. Interested citizens who wish to apply can contact Pierce at spierce@antioch, il.gov or the village hall at 847-395-1000.Lake Zurich trustee to run for re-electionLake Zurich Village Trustee Tom Poynton announced he will run for re-election to his village board seat. A trustee of four years, Poynton wants to continue serving the village and solving problems for its residents, he said in a news release. Some of his goals include improving the fiscal integrity of Lake Zurich, the redevelopment of the downtown area, and not taking shortcuts when dealing with businesses and residents, he said.Change in Navy boot camp leadershipU.S. Navy Capt. John W. Peterson will turn over command of boot camp training to Capt. Steven Bethke in a ceremony Friday at Great Lakes Naval Station near North Chicago. About 40,000 graduates are expected this year at Recruit Training Command, the Navy's only boot camp where newly minted sailors are sent across the world. Peterson is retiring to the Washington, D.C. area following a 30-year Navy career. Admiral John C. Harvey, commander of U.S. Fleet Forces Command, is scheduled to speak at Friday's change-of-command ceremony.
