Cops: Drunk Naperville couple endangered children
A Naperville couple was charged with endangering the lives of their children after an alcohol-related crash in East Dundee, police said Monday.
Derek G. Moore, 46, and Farrah D. Moore, 33, both of the 25W600 block of Burlington Avenue, were arrested about 9:20 p.m. Friday after Derek Moore crashed his vehicle into a ditch at Ravine and Crabtree roads, according to police. No one was hurt.
East Dundee Police Chief Terry Mee said officers arrived at the scene to find only Farrah Moore and her two sons, ages 10 and 13, in the vehicle. He said Derek Moore, the boys' stepfather, had fled to a nearby wooded area, where he was apprehended a short time later.
Mee said both adults were "somewhat incoherent" and smelled of alcohol. He said Farrah Moore struck an officer in the chest and arm as she was being arrested.
The Moores were each charged with two counts of endangering the life or health of a child. Derek Moore was also charged with driving under the influence, and Farrah Moore was charged additionally with resisting arrest and aggravated battery to a police officer.
Mee said police reported the matter to the Department of Children and Family Services, and the boys later were turned over to a relative.
Derek Moore was released on a personal recognizance bond Friday. Farrah Moore was in the Kane County jail Monday with bail set at $15,000. She needs to pay $1,500 to be released.
