Worker hurt during Elgin gas station robbery

A clerk was slightly injured during a weekend armed robbery at an Elgin gas station at the corner of State and National streets, officials said.

Police said the robbery occurred about 10:16 p.m. Saturday when a man walked into the gas station with a gun. The suspect struggled with the clerk during the robbery and the clerk was injured, police said.

The robber eventually got away from the clerk, officials said. The amount of money taken from the station was not disclosed.

The clerk was taken to Provena St. Joseph Hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries and released, police said.

The suspect is described as a black man between 18 and 25 years old, about 5-foot-7, with a medium build. He was wearing a black T-shirt, black shorts, black hat and black bandanna.
