Tollway may suspend work on Reagan, Veterans Memorial projects
The Illinois Tollway may suspend work on three Chicago-area construction projects as a strike idles workers.
The projects include the Edens Spur, the Veterans Memorial Tollway and the Reagan Memorial Tollway.
Work could stop on some projects as soon as Thursday.
While tollway construction employees are still working, their projects can't move forward because they can't get materials or equipment from striking crews.
Heavy equipment operators and road construction laborers have been on strike for nearly three weeks over requested increases in health benefits.
Tollway director Kristi Lafleur says the labor dispute is affecting the ability to keep on schedule and within budget.
The two sides are scheduled to meet Monday for negotiations.
