Teaching moments come in many ways

For his birthday, I gave my son Charlie the book, "A Company of Heroes: Personal Memories about the Real Band of Brothers and the Legacy They Left Us." It's a book about courage, patriotism, and sacrifice - attributes for a young man to live by.

I was honored to have the son of "the toughest member of Easy Company" write a personal inscription for my son. And then it occurred to me, the juxtaposition of the deep meaning of this book and the brave and heroic men of Easy Company against the backdrop of endless teacher and construction unions threatening our communities with strikes year after year after year.

What a contrast. What an insult. Teaching moments come to us in many different ways. "A Company of Heroes" is a teaching moment. Unions striking during dire economic times is another. God bless our soldiers and the men of Easy Company. You can finish the rest yourself.
