Rolling Meadows to celebrate Terry Moran Family Day Saturday

Since 1995, Rolling Meadows has turned over a summer day in July to softball, entertainment, live entertainment and plenty of food - all to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation and Aflac Cancer Center.

The 2010 Terry Moran Family Day and softball and baggo tournaments will be held Saturday, July 17 at Kimball Hill Park, 3301 Campbell St., Rolling Meadows.

Family Day is the creation of the Moran family, to honor Terry, who died in a car accident on Jan. 18, 1995. Moran was a great 16-inch softball player, and his friends and family chose to create a softball tournament in his memory.

Since 1995, Family Day has returned each year and grown to include baggo, live music, food vendors and other games.

This year, the band Q-balls plays 4:30-6 p.m.

As well this year, the Duck Race will kick off at 4 p.m. to raise money for Salt Creek restoration efforts. Sponsored by the Environmental Committee, Rolling Meadows Rotary Club and the Park District Foundation, the race will be held along Salt Creek from the Kimball Hill Park Bridge to the Kirchoff Road overpass.

Buy tickets for the event (one ticket = one duck) at City Hall for $5 each.

The winning duck's owner will get a $500 grand prize, with other prizes awarded to runners-up.

Money raised will support native plant restoration along the banks of Salt Creek. For more information, contact Amy Charlesworth at (847) 818-3220.
