Kildeer woman charged with theft for altering bar codes

A Kildeer woman faces new theft charges after authorities say she placed fake bar codes that store cashiers use to scan items at checkout on a sonar and GPS unit at a Hoffman Estates' outfitters store, enabling her to purchase them for considerably less than their asking price.

Police charged Anifa Ivanov, of the 22000 block of White Pine Road, with retail theft in the incident which occurred March 9 at the Cabela's store located in the 5200 block of Prairie Stone Parkway.

Cook County Judge Kay Hanlon set Ivanov's bond at $10,000 Thursday in Rolling Meadows, where the 24-year-old woman has another case pending.

Palatine police arrested Ivanov in April after Dominick's Finer Foods employees reported catching her attempting to steal merchandise. Prosecutors say Ivanov hid items in a sack concealed under a long skirt she was wearing and tried to leave the store without paying for them. A Cook County judge set bond at $40,000 in that case.

This new charge is not considered a bond violation because the incident occurred before the Dominick's case, prosecutors said.

Ivanov, who had been released on bond before her latest arrest, has a 2007 forgery conviction and a 2006 conviction for possession of a controlled substance. For each conviction she received two years probation.

Ivanov next appears in court on Aug. 23.
