Sonic to open today in Palatine

Palatine's new Sonic Drive-In will open to the public at 6 a.m. Thursday, July 15. The fast-food restaurant, located at 1151 E. Dundee Road, is known for its cherry limeade and other drink concoctions, as well as carhops, burgers and tater tots.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. and feature Mayor Jim Schwantz, mascots, skaters and business leaders. The first 100 customers will receive commemorative T-shirts and the first 1,000 customers have the chance to win free weekly combo meals for a year.

Regular hours of operation are 6 a.m. to midnight everyday.
