Barrington Countryside Fire honors Lenn Grant

Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District trustees and Fire Chief James Arie unveiled a commemorative paver brick July 2, honoring the service of former Assistant Fire Chief Lenn Grant.

The ceremony was held at Barrington Memorial Park.

Grant, who joined the department in 1972 as a paid on-call firefighter/EMT, retired in November 2009. He was the first full-time firefighter to retire from the department.

The brick's inscription reads, "Heartfelt thanks to Assistant Chief Lenn Grant for your 37 years of duty, honor and courage, from the Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District."

"The commemorative paver brick is an enduring way to honor Assistant Chief Grant's long history of service to the fire department and the district," said BCFPD Treasurer Tom Rowan, who attended the ceremony along with Trustee Paul Heinze.

"We honor his service and wish him well in the future."

Grant graduated with the fire department's second paramedic class, and received a full-time position with the Village of Barrington in 1985. He became a full-time firefighter in the mid-1990s, earned promotion to lieutenant in 2000, and was appointed assistant fire chief in 2008.

The Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District receives emergency fire and medical service from the Barrington Fire Department, which is responsible for protecting the lives and property of district residents through an intergovernmental agreement between the district and Village of Barrington.

The District serves portions of Barrington Hills, South Barrington, Lake Barrington and Inverness; and portions of unincorporated Cook, Lake and McHenry Counties.
