Scouting: Sky @ New York Liberty
Chicago Sky (8-10) at New York Liberty (7-9)
When: 3 p.m. today
Where: Madison Square Garden
TV: CN100
Last time: On Tuesday, the Sky lost to the Indiana Fever at Allstate Arena 58-51, and the Liberty lost to the Storm in Seattle 78-70.
The skinny: The Liberty sits just below the Sky in the basement of the Eastern Conference, but this game is certainly not to be taken lightly. The Sky has yet to beat New York this season, and this will be the third matchup between the teams. Besides that, the Liberty features one of the best guards in the WNBA in Chicago native Cappie Pondexter, who torched the Sky for 31 points on 14-of-18 shooting from the field in an early June Liberty victory at Allstate. A win for the Sky is important in keeping up with the Joneses in a tight and hotly contested race in the Eastern Conference. The Sky, which has won four of its last six, is only 2 games out of fourth place, and four teams from each conference make the playoffs. Pondexter and Sylvia Fowles, who was the only Sky player to reach double figures against Indiana on Tuesday (26 points, 18 rebounds), will try to shake fatigue as they are the only players in this game to participate in this weekend's WNBA all-star game. Pondexter averages 19.6 points and 4.8 assists per game while Fowles is at 19.3 points and 9.4 rebounds per game.
