Two teens injured in Gurnee-area crash
Drugs and alcohol are believed to have been a factor in an early-morning crash that injured two teens, according to authorities.
Just before 5 a.m. Saturday, a 1995 BMW was traveling west on Stearns School Road just east of Route 45 near Gurnee. Lake County Sheriff's Lt. John Crilly said the driver, an 18-year-old Gurnee man, "failed to negotiate a curve and hit a guardrail."
The man and a 16-year-old girl from Lake Villa were extricated from the vehicle by Gurnee firefighters and taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with serious injuries. Crilly said drugs and alcohol appear to have played a role in the crash, but charges are pending review by the state's attorney.
