Fire damages Palatine apartment building
A fire on Saturday morning inside a Palatine apartment complex caused significant damage to the building and displaced all the residents inside.
Firefighters were called to the scene at about 7:30 a.m., according to a release from the Palatine Fire Department. Firefighters arrived at a three-story, six-unit building at 1306 Turtle Creek Drive to find thick smoke pouring from a third-floor apartment.
The fire was located in the kitchen in the third-floor unit, authorities said in the release. Firefighters brought it under control in 17 minutes, but the blaze caused significant fire and smoke damage to the unit and the one across the hall. Other units in the building suffered water damage.
No serious injuries were reported. All residents who were in the building at the time were evacuated with the help of Palatine police officers, authorities said. Two firefighters were treated at the scene for symptoms of minor heat exhaustion.
The exact number of residents displaced was unavailable. Palatine fire officials said Saturday afternoon that the cause of the fire was still under investigation.
