White Sox say Peavy is done for the season
Chicago White Sox pitcher Jake Peavy is done for the season.
The right-hander said Friday he will have surgery on a detached right shoulder muscle next Wednesday and hopes to be throwing again by spring training early next year. He says his career isn't in jeopardy, but doctors recommended the procedure.
Peavy has a detached muscle in the back of his right shoulder. He was hurt delivering a pitch Tuesday night in a game against the Angels.
The team described the injury as a detached latissimus dorsi muscle.
Peavy is 10-6 with a 4.11 ERA and 111 strikeouts in 20 starts with the White Sox since being acquired from San Diego on July 31, 2009 in exchange for four pitchers. The 2007 National League Cy Young Award winner owns a career record of 102-74 with a 3.36 ERA.
