Better Wall Street oversight needed, protection for consumers
After the scare of an economic collapse a couple years ago, an overhaul of the oversight rules for Wall Street seems due.
We haven't had real consumer protection on the books since the early '70s. When I was growing up, I was taught that banks can't cross state lines. When did we let banks and corporations take over the country?
It's to Wall Street's advantage to have complex financial vehicles that no one understands or can explain. The onus should be put on Wall Street for transparency and accountability.
I don't have much faith that our Congress can do anything right, but some protection for consumers is a step in the right direction.
