Stonegate Kids to present 'Alice in Wonderland' as 10th annual show
Stonegate Kids, a summer theater troupe for kids and by kids, is presenting its 10th annual show in two performances today, Friday, July 9.
"Alice in Wonderland" will be performed at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. at Southminster Presbyterian Church, 916 E. Central Road in Arlington Heights.
A $3 donation is suggested, and all proceeds will benefit two local families with children suffering from serious health conditions.
Stonegate Kids was born a decade ago under the direction of Heidi Graham, whose vision was to produce shows by kids and for kids.
Since the last day of school, Stonegate Kids ages 7-17 have met three times a week for two hours each time to prepare this year's show. They choose the show and charity, cast the show by lottery, make their own sets, contribute their own costumes, props and are in charge of the direction.
Some children have grown up in Stonegate Kids, making the transition from actors to directors. Thus far, Stonegate Kids has raised more than $9,000 for various charities.
