Tisdale, Shurna picked for USA select team
Illini senior Mike Tisdale and Northwestern junior John Shurna have has been named to the USA Basketball Select Team that will train against the USA Basketball National Team July 19-24 during its training camp in Las Vegas.
Joining Shurna and Tisdale, on the 20-man Select Team will be Ohio State's William Buford, Purdue's JaJuan Johnson and Wisconsin's Jon Leuer.
The 7-1 Tisdale averaged 11.9 points and six rebounds a game in 36 starts last season for Illinois.
Lorenzo Romar of the University of Washington and Jay Wright of Villanova University will serve as co-head coaches of the USA Select Team.
The 20 Select Team players include nine who will be seniors in 2010-11 and 11 who will be juniors. Shurna, a Glenbard West graduate, will be reunited with Shelvin Mack of Butler and Howard Thompkins of Georgia who were teammates of his on last summer's gold medal-winning U-19 team.
