Sox GM reportedly covets Dunn

Adam Dunn further enhanced his trade value Wednesday night, hitting 3 home runs for the Washington Nationals.

The White Sox could use a powerful left-handed bat like Dunn, and ESPN.com reported that general manager Kenny Williams is "all over" the big first baseman.

Maybe, but not at the rumored asking price of either Carlos Quentin or Gordon Beckham.

Dunn has 20 home runs, but he's eligible for free agency at the end of the season.

"Adam Dunn, they were talking about the Angels, who miss (Kendry Morales) at first base," Sox manager Ozzie Guillen said. "That guy can help people. Right now, I'm glad with what we have. If we need something desperate, that's Kenny's job."

Hudson on the way? When they placed Jake Peavy on the disabled list Wednesday, the White Sox called up Class AAA Charlotte starting pitcher Jeff Marquez to take his place on the roster.

Marquez isn't expected to stay with the Sox very long, and he was brought up to help out a bullpen that was taxed Tuesday after Jake Peavy left early due to injury.

Peavy's next scheduled start - Sunday against Zack Greinke and the Royals - should be filled by Daniel Hudson, the White Sox' top pitching prospect.

Hudson is 11-4 with a 3.47 ERA and 108 strikeouts in 931/3 innings at Charlotte.

Last season, Hudson joined the Sox in September and was 1-1 with a 3.38 ERA in six games (2 starts).

"If he's the one, yes, I do have confidence in him," manager Ozzie Guillen said. "How is he pitching? I don't know. I do have a lot of confidence in him to do this job."

Star search: Paul Konerko moved ahead of Michael Young into third place in the Final Vote for next week's All-Star Game.

Balloting ends today at 3 p.m. (Chicago time), and Konerko still trails Nick Swisher and Kevin Youkilis for the final roster spot.

Quentin sits: Carlos Quentin missed his second straight game with a sore left knee.

Originally in the Sox' lineup as the designated hitter, Quentin was a late scratch.

"He could have played but not the way we wanted him to play," Ozzie Guillen said. "He could have run a little bit, but if I put Carlos there having a day game tomorrow and he gets worse, then I'm not doing my job."

Guillen said Quentin is likely to sit Thursday as well.
