All-teen cast opens musical comedy Friday at Cutting Hall

In celebration of its 25th year, Second Suburb Players will present "Once Upon A Mattress" July 9-11 and 16-18 at Cutting Hall, 250 E. Wood St., Palatine.

Second Suburb Players, a theater company for young adults ages 14-20, runs in the summer through the Palatine Park District. The purpose of the program is to provide summer artistic opportunities for teens.

Jessica Means of Schaumburg returns as director for Second Suburb this summer. Means, an English teacher at Palatine High School, "is excited to present this humorous and playful show for Palatine patrons this summer."

This fun musical is a retelling of the "Princess and the Pea" story, with a twist. A manipulative queen attempts to keep her submissive son in her clutches, away from any sort of bride. However, one day, an outspoken and quirky princess applies for the prince's hand in marriage and a tale of all sorts of wonderful ensues.

Kyle Downs is assistant director/choreographer for the show. The cast includes: Russell Badalamenti of Arlington Heights; Greta Ritzenthaler of Wheeling; Alexa Weinzierl of Schaumburg; Hayley Barron, Dillon Dreiling, Bridget Euker and Renee Howarth of Lake Zurich; Adam Brauer, Justin Brauer, Melissa Cannon, Bryanna Fujino, Beth Hollander, Faith Hollander, Adam Lamb, Justin Lebo, Bianca Lev, Emily LaVigne, Gwendalyn LaVigne, Danny Leahy, Emily Liquin, Stephen Logan, John McHugh Valerie Pizzato, Caitlyn Pagenkopf, Emily Prescott, Anna Price, Liam Reynolds, Kelly Travers, Jack Williams all of Palatine.
