'Billy Elliot' to leap from Chicago to Toronto in January
Come January, "Billy Elliot" leaps from Chicago to Toronto for the continuation of the national tour which began earlier this year at the Ford Center for the Performing Arts Oriental Theatre.
Word that Chicago's heralded production will close on Jan. 15, 2011, accompanied Broadway in Chicago's announcement that the show's final block of tickets go on sale July 16.
The news came Wednesday, which marked the 100th performance of Elton John and Lee Hall's Tony Award-winning musical about a working-class boy from a mining town in Northern England who dreams of becoming a ballet dancer, and the friends and family who sacrifice to help make his dream come true.
Stephen Daldry, who also helmed the 2000 film that inspired it, directs the musical. Tommy Batchelor, Guiseppe Bausilio, Cesar Corrales and J.P. Viernes share the title role in the production, which also features Marriott Theatre and Drury Lane favorite Susie McMonagle as Billy's mum.
• "Billy Elliot" runs through Jan. 15, 2011, at the Ford Center for the Performing Arts, 24 W. Randolph St., Chicago. For tickets, call (800) 775-2000 or see broadwayinchicago.com.
