Sky signs 6-foot-4 Thomas

In an effort to bolster its frontcourt, the Chicago Sky has signed 6-foot-4 forward/center Christi Thomas.

Thomas, who was a free agent after being waived by Minnesota last July, will join the Sky at practice on Friday, according to Sky head coach and GM Steven Key.

Thomas could see action after the All-Star Game break when the Sky takes on the New York Liberty at New York on Sunday.

"With Christi Thomas we will add depth and size to our front court plus invaluable WNBA experience," said Key.

Thomas, a six-year WNBA veteran out of the University of Georgia, was drafted 12th overall by the Los Angeles Sparks in the 2004 WNBA draft. She played on the Sparks until 2008 when she was traded to Minnesota for Vanessa Hayden-Johnson in 2009. Thomas played in 11 games for Minnesota before being waived.

Thomas went to training camp with the Tulsa Shock this season but did not make the team.

For her career, Thomas has averaged 5 points and 3.9 rebounds per game.

After failing to land a spot with the Tulsa Shock, Christi Thomas, a former Sparks draft pick, has signed with the Sky as a free agent.
