Cougars roll to 11-2 victory
The Kane County offense kept rolling Tuesday as the Cougars cruised to an 11-2 victory over the Beloit Snappers in front of 6,281 at Elfstrom Stadium.
The Cougars connected for 17 hits, and six players had multihit efforts. Dan Straily (6-5) logged a quality start on the mound, giving the Cougars a 4-2 mark on their six-game homestand.
The Cougars jumped on Beloit starter B.J. Hermsen for 2 runs in the first inning. Anthony Aliotti and Rashun Dixon had consecutive RBI singles.
The big inning was the Cougars' fifth, as they scored 5 runs on 5 doubles.
The Cougars (6-6, 38-43) and Peoria open a three-game series Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. at Wrigley Field. The next two games of the set will be played in Peoria.
Fielders come up short: Fielders starting pitcher Ryan Bicondoa and Joliet starter Ross Stout battled it out all night, but in the end it was the visiting JackHammers who came out on top 4-3.
The Fielders (16-26) jumped on the board in the first inning on an single by Jeff Dunbar that scored Amos Ramon.
The Fielders closed to within a run in the ninth inning on a sacrifice fly but could get no closer.
Jeff Dunbar went 3-for-4 with an RBI for the Fielders, who wrap up the series Wednesday in Zion.
Flyers washed out: The Flyers game against the Rockford RiverHawks' was suspended because of rain. The finale of the three-game series had been scheduled for noon Wednesday. They will play the regularly scheduled game and then complete the suspended game.
