House catches fire in Hoffman Estates

Hoffman Estates fire investigators are probing a blaze that erupted Tuesday afternoon at a home on the 4900 block of Chambers Drive.

Heavy smoke and fire were seen from the rear of the when firefighters arrived at the two-story home about 4:45 p.m. Battalion Chief Richard Englund said the fire was primarily confined to the structure's exterior and ran from the ground to the roof. He said the fire's cause had yet to be determined late Tuesday. Total damage to the house and contents was estimated at $30,000.

At least 20 Hoffman Estates firefighters responded to the blaze. Englund said the house was determined to be habitable and turned back to its owners.

No one was injured, officials said.
