Junior League seeks new members
The Junior League of Kane and DuPage Counties Inc., an organization of women committed to helping at-risk youth within DuPage, Kane Kendall and Will counties, is welcoming new members for its 2010-11 service year.
Active in the western suburbs for more than 15 years, JLKD women educate, mentor and make dreams come true through a variety of community outreach initiatives focused on promoting literacy and nurturing self-esteem.
Informational meetings are scheduled throughout the summer for area women interested in learning more about JLKD and its service projects.
The next New Member Socials will be: 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 14 at First Centennial Mortgage, 2471 W. Sullivan Road in Aurora; 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, July 25 at a location in St. Charles; 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 8 in Naperville; and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1 at Houlihan's, 2860 Show Place Drive in Naperville.
"The Junior League is an international organization with a rich history of promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers," said JLKD President Jeni Kahley of Geneva.
"Our local chapter brings this mission to life through the dedication and service of members from throughout DuPage, Kane, Kendall and Will counties who have very diverse backgrounds but who share the common goal of improving the lives of children within our communities. Together, we better the lives of young people in our community -and we have a lot of fun in the process."
